Word of the Day

Rockbusters!

Rockbusters is a game conceived by Karl Pilkington that was played on the second series of podcasts.

Despite its titular pun, the game has very little in common with Blockbusters. Karl gives three clues that he considers to be cryptic but are in reality convoluted colloquialisms that often depend on the answer being mispronounced. Steve once aptly referred to them as "craptic" clues. Along with the clues, Karl includes the initials of the answer.

Ricky and Steve have nothing but disdain for the contest and often threaten to scrap it. The two often marvel at how listeners manage to get the right answers week in and week out, no matter how ill-conceived or absurd Karl's clues are. Ricky has said on more than one occasion that it's probably better not to get the right answers.

Here's one semi-relevant to this post.

Mother Mother - Try to Change Lyrics

This song just makes me giggle.... The lyrics are funny i think

Try to change..
I try to change..
I make a list of all the ways to change my ways.
But i stay the same,
I stay the s-ame.
Ohh..
I will try and try to change but i just stay the same.
Stay the same,
I stay the same.
In a decadent age i try to change
All my decadent ways but i just can't help but
Stay the same.
In a decadent age.
Ohh..
I will try and try to change but i just stay the same.
The same..
The same..
The same..
The same..
Carry a cane.
I carry a cane.
'cause i tried to change
And i tried too hard
So i hurt my leg and well, overall
I just stayed the same.
Now i carry a cane.
Ohh..
I will try and try to change
But the list i made of changes to make,
It bleww awaayy..
Blew away..
Blew away..
Blew away..
Try to change,
Try to change,
I try to change,
Try to change,
Everybody be tryin' to change,
Tryin' to change,
I try to change,
I try, it's safe to say, [something..]
Don't change

I stumbled across this little number for you K. what do you reckon?

shouldn't be too hard to construct.

costume ideas for Liv

Hey Liv, i know you've been trying to find a super sexy wicked witch number for halloween. heres some ideas for inspiration. I'm personally a fan of the black number, as it is more witch-like. you could totally pull of the pink one too though, something a bit different!
what you reckon?
epic fail picturesJust a bit funny.

Holy heck Marge...

Okay this is kind of funny, Playboys new covergirl is Marge Simpson.
Marge is going to feature a three-page pictorial spread, pullout, and an interview called 'The Devil in Marge Simpson'.
Honest to god Read this
Okay so apparently it is just 'implied nudity' so shes not going to be completely nakey.
Lol get this, the new Playboy CEO says "the idea is to attract readers in their 20s to a magazine where the average reader's age is 35".

Boooooooring.

Somebody write/post something amusing pleeeease?
Thanks

You don't need poltergeists for sidekicks

We are having a bit of a Halloween do on Halloween. I say do because I'm pretty sure we don't have the numbers for a party. Just few drinks, nothing too crazy, exams blah blaah. But thats cool right, its totally quality not quantity.
And there will be quality. Quality costumes. Chris is Harry Potter, I'm a witch, K you are a Mummy. That will be awsome.
Lou are you still pissing round with the scream mask idea? I'm encouraging you go back to the drawing board. Hey totally upto you however you can't drink in a scream mask so you'll end up not wearing it which could really detract from our overall Halloweeness.
Butter's will dress up too, not sure what though. Don't think any of the others are gonna drink.
I remember talking about this at Lous that time... was Jen gonna be a ghost? Hope you don't have work J. Oh no it was a vampire right??? Some ones gotta be a vampire.

Aaaand we're back....

Not quite sure what happened there, but you may have noticed you couldn't get onto the blog for awhile..

Now i know you were stressing and panicking but it's all ok, see it's all here safe and sound.

Just a little quote from Sunmaid raisins to get you through the night...

Lou's Biff

Lou this is what I was telling you about today.

Chris was kind enough to show me this clip off Good Morning. This american guy Adam Saaks cuts up shirts on people and makes like crochet type designs.

They are a pretty hoebag trash type thing but I like the white one he does on Pippa at the start. Imean overall its a clever cool idea, just not to the whorey extremes he takes it.

I wanted to try making one so made Chris wear this
white top last night while I cut it, you have to cut it into slits on the person then sort of twist and tie it all up on them.
Pretty bloody funny, Chris was crapping himself that one of the boys would catch him wearing this tight top with chest slits. Like he'd hear someone on the stairs and start spazzing and try taking it off.

Hi lar ri ous.

Workplace News

Haha got to work this morning, not even kidding/exagerating AT ALL, Brent's like heey Olivia we just to touch base... get a big fat spiel about this new emergency flip chart they've come up with...theres like a section on bomb threats and what not...however the best was a page on what to do when confronted by 'unauthorised media' on campus, and how not to 'get engaged in conversation' and theres like this emergency number to call... WTF pretty funny right just imagine me rocking up to polytech getting bombarded by reporters or something.

In other workday news, in 2 seperate and unrelated instances today I have been given really great bananas by people at work. Banana's rock.

technological geniuses

Work-Wank-Speak

I was thinking that that email below is actually pretty mellowly worded compared to typical Brentis WORK-WANK-SPEAK.
Brentis will use an average of say 3 or 4 of these phrases/words in every work convo I have the joy of holding with him;

"of that specific nature"
(Specific is like Brent's 'the'. Pretty much can be chucked in anywhere)
"general rule of thumb"
"As a casual employee..."
"From a customer services standpoint"
"Lends itself too..."
"A heads up..."
"Over-arching guidelines"
"The standard texts" - whaaa??
"student- friendly" or "from the perspective of a prospective student"
"Diarise" - okay I find this a particularly offensive word. WTF. Diary is a noun yeah?. To 'diarise' something however does not made sense and is the most wanky sounding thing to say ever. Cringe. Raisin.
"Touch base" Actually this one is preetty bad too. It's a guaranteed if he bumps into me at work and hasn't seen me in the last 24 hours. "we really need to touch base sometime today Olivia" .
Time for a 20 minute seminar.
Just.Let. Me. Do. The. Filing. Do not need to 'touch base' re new fire alarm procedures or to update my emergency details for the millionth time or to be informed of new community course or anything else that is completely irrelevant due to the fact that all I really do is photocopy/file/register/sometimes answer the phone.

A few other notable mentions, not quite at the same level of cringe;
"procedure" "consistant" (as below) "Proactive" "Hands- on" "collation of data"
"SYNERGISE"
"Logistics" alllways the logistics of ze issue.

ENQUIRY vs INQUIRY

Old Brent is moving up in the rankings at Ptek; hot-shot Customer Services Manager now. A clear example of how far attention to detail can take you in life. Just to showcase Brent's commitment to quality I thought I would share this email we got sent at work.

Hi-

We've had some issues regarding the use of Inquiry in place of Enquiry.

I am giving this advice so we can have consistent use of the word(s).

To make it simple, if possible, can we use "enquiry" in our emails when dealing with student enquiries or similar.

There has been an American trend over recent years for the use of the word Inquiry in place of Enquiry, however in British and NZ English, an inquiry is an investigation, while an enquiry is a question.

If we all use enquiry it'll keep things consistent.

Also, if you see inquiry written anywhere in our standard texts let me know.

Thanks, Brent

Techno too far

Liv i'd say you'd be into this.

Always keen to get something to do things for you. Things that aren't actually that hard to do yourself i.e. walking.

Seriously tho, come on, a segway skirt???

Double you tee eff.

cheesecake in bin

went home and found a perfectly good cheese cake in the bin. broke my heart.
considered getting it out even.
I am skum.

10 points for guessing which jew it belonged to - would rather feed it to the bin than share it

Dip-Digger-Hands

Lou got angry cos i told someone at work about her dip habits. Dont actually know why...they didnt get it, just thought it was kind of gross. Which it is. But its fine Lou, we are all gross. Actually not K really, pre rinsing your cups and all that. Jen are you gross?

But peter was eating dip at work so was semi relevant. But yeah will work on filtering proper work stories but anyway peter started talking bout his kids and these bad boys:

Fun right. Sandpits were frigging awsome fun and the mini digger is the ultimate sandpit tool! Anyway sorry Lou ill stop making you sound like a yuckface.

Library rant

After venturing to the library early this morning (got there at about 8.15, that's a mere 15 minutes after it opens) we were unable to find a cocking seat. I mean what the hell, where did all of you shitbags come from and why are you so insistent on getting here 20 minutes before it opens and running to find a seat.

Jen and i have now constructed a make shift desk in my room so that we have somewhere to study. And it's way better than that shitty library anyway! Got our own toilet, and cups of tea and warmness and musicness and stuff. So there.

Moral of the story - the library sucks.

3 Letters

It has just come to my attention that K should change her blogger name to something with three letters. It would make the list of us much more aesthetically pleasing.
Lou
Liv
Jen
Kir

This is a bad example I will admit it, but you do see were I'm coming from yes?

Essentially this does come down to you K and whether or not you think this is really necessary, I do acknowledge it probably isn't and I should just grow up. But anyway, I thought I would get this issue circulating, maybe we could bounce around a few ideas.

Horchata defined

Dear Liv,

Here is the definition of Horchata. Enjoy.

A traditional Mexican beverage made with rice. It is flavored with lime and cinnamon and sweetened with sugar. Originally horchata was made with the chufa nut and sometimes melon or squash seeds.
The rice, nuts or seeds are ground and mixed with water to make a milky looking drink.

This drink can be found in most Mexican restaurants and is often sold by street vendors in Mexico. Since it does not contain milk, it will not spoil as easily as a dairy containing beverage. The origins of this drink stem from Egypt where they originally used the chufa nut to make horchata. During ancient times, the drink made its way to Spain. When the Spaniards brought the drink to Mexico, the natives used rice to make the drink.

Traditionally horchata is still made with rice in Mexico and chufa in Spain, although you can find the alternate chufa version in Mexico as well.

Pronunciation: or-CHAH-tah

Think from outside the box, collapse the box and take a fucking knife to it.

ok so that was just to grab some attention, it is something Bansky said (i've noticed he is a current topic of conversation on the blog, so just wanted to put my 2 cents in).
This is my very first blogging attempt, and no i don't have a funny video to post or anything so im just going to blab. Hope that suits.

K, i was technologically savvy and managed to download that music, am listening to it now and do enjoy. Even got it onto my 3rd technology (Ipod).

well, thats about it for now.

peace

My Day... and first mp3 attempt.

Today i got free V and a muesli bar from our new boss. That was super cool. Two times thumbs up. And i got a new jacket for my iPod because i decided that Jen's new one was coool. Kudos Liv and Lou for the good present buying. Hope that writing about my day will make Sam happy Liv, or should i write more like "Dear Diary..."?

First Mp3 post... yay i think it works let me know tho yea because i have dial-up (yes, big-time shame) so i can't actually click them and try them out, i'll be here for HOURS.

You know the deal, right-click "save link as" or whatever it is in the crappy browser you use (Liv).

(Frightened Rabbit song is actually old old fashioned - live. I was illinformed)

Portfolio shot

K Liv, so looking back i realise that at the time i did these i was somewhat a JPEG-amateur and they could be of a much higher standard. Also i used an iStockPhoto because it was the easiest one to put our heads on... NOT cos i had a Photoshop Disaster haha

But hey, i guess they are still funny right.
