The Veils
Rockbusters!
Rockbusters is a game conceived by Karl Pilkington that was played on the second series of podcasts.
Despite its titular pun, the game has very little in common with Blockbusters. Karl gives three clues that he considers to be cryptic but are in reality convoluted colloquialisms that often depend on the answer being mispronounced. Steve once aptly referred to them as "craptic" clues. Along with the clues, Karl includes the initials of the answer.
Ricky and Steve have nothing but disdain for the contest and often threaten to scrap it. The two often marvel at how listeners manage to get the right answers week in and week out, no matter how ill-conceived or absurd Karl's clues are. Ricky has said on more than one occasion that it's probably better not to get the right answers.

Work-Wank-Speak
Brentis will use an average of say 3 or 4 of these phrases/words in every work convo I have the joy of holding with him;
"of that specific nature"
(Specific is like Brent's 'the'. Pretty much can be chucked in anywhere)
"general rule of thumb"
"As a casual employee..."
"From a customer services standpoint"
"Lends itself too..."
"A heads up..."
"Over-arching guidelines"
"The standard texts" - whaaa??
"student- friendly" or "from the perspective of a prospective student"
"Diarise" - okay I find this a particularly offensive word. WTF. Diary is a noun yeah?. To 'diarise' something however does not made sense and is the most wanky sounding thing to say ever. Cringe. Raisin.
"Touch base" Actually this one is preetty bad too. It's a guaranteed if he bumps into me at work and hasn't seen me in the last 24 hours. "we really need to touch base sometime today Olivia" .
Time for a 20 minute seminar.
Just.Let. Me. Do. The. Filing. Do not need to 'touch base' re new fire alarm procedures or to update my emergency details for the millionth time or to be informed of new community course or anything else that is completely irrelevant due to the fact that all I really do is photocopy/file/register/sometimes answer the phone.
A few other notable mentions, not quite at the same level of cringe;
"procedure" "consistant" (as below) "Proactive" "Hands- on" "collation of data"
"SYNERGISE"
"Logistics" alllways the logistics of ze issue.
ENQUIRY vs INQUIRY

We've had some issues regarding the use of Inquiry in place of Enquiry.
I am giving this advice so we can have consistent use of the word(s).
To make it simple, if possible, can we use "enquiry" in our emails when dealing with student enquiries or similar.
There has been an American trend over recent years for the use of the word Inquiry in place of Enquiry, however in British and NZ English, an inquiry is an investigation, while an enquiry is a question.
If we all use enquiry it'll keep things consistent.
Also, if you see inquiry written anywhere in our standard texts let me know.
Thanks, Brent
